Infinity Robotechs Speak and Demonstrate Robot at McMurray Elementary Entrepreneur and Arts Fair
By: Kyle Kroboth June 6, 2017
In accordance with our mission to share the message of FTC and knowledge of STEM throughout our community, the Infinity Robotechs FTC Team #11210 recently held an exhibit at the Entrepreneur and Arts Festival held at McMurray Elementary School in Peters Township, PA.
The festival was a celebration of both the mind and the arts. There were various other exhibits at the festival, including henna tattoos, artwork displays, choral and band concerts, and an entrepreneur fair, where students fourth through sixth grade sold homemade goods. Because of the diversity of exhibits, all different kinds of people attended the fair, even though they may not have been interested in robotics at first. This allowed us to get our message out to a large demographic.
At our exhibit, we explained the FIRST Tech Challenge, what the robot does, and why it does it. Kids could also control the robot themselves, or watch one of our team members demonstrate if they were too scared to do it themselves. Many of the children were awed while watching our robot moving, picking up, and shooting balls.
Because much of our audience were of the elementary age, we referred them to the FIRST Lego League, and we hope that they try that out and possibly join an FTC team (maybe even the Robotechs) when they're older. It was a great experience and we hope to pursue more outreach opportunities with McMurray Elementary in the future.
